The War of Two Queens (FBAA #4)

[A Quick Note: Some people love this series, and some hate it. Personally, I adore it! I was eagerly anticipating TWOTQ for a year. I didn’t get to it right when I’d hoped, but I devoured it once I did! I think it depends on the reader, but if you’re someone who loves lots of details, a strong female MC, royalty, and a twist on vampires, you might like this one. This review is mildly spoilery, you have been warned!]

SUSPENSE!! Be still my heart! Who doesn’t love a good “captive” trope?! In reverse too: the heroine must save the male love interest. That was the driving factor behind this installment. I really enjoyed it and devoured it in a few sittings. BE WARNED: It’s a long book! This was close to a five star, but didn’t quite hit the mark for a reason I’ll get in to momentarily.

Because of the events at the end of the previous book, Poppy and Cas don’t get a lot of time in this one. I thought that would annoy me. Truthfully? It didn’t!!! It was a nice little break. It gave Poppy and Kieran time to grow closer. I’m a huge fan of Kieran’s character, so I delighted in these moments between them. That made the “joining” at the end more satisfying.

Okay, a brief comment on the joining. Was anyone else a little disappointed? I was really looking forward to this. I felt like Kieran and Casteel were …too conjoined? I get that a joining should be “joined” but dang, I kinda wanted to know who was doing what. I wanted especially to know what Kieran was doing. Poppy being oblivious to who’s hand was where disappointed me. I would have liked it ramped up a bit instead of toned down. But that’s not the reason for my minor half star subtraction.

My half star subtraction comes from detail tracking. OhMyLord. There is so much info dropped so frequently about Poppy, who she is, her bloodline, her abilities, etc. It just becomes almost exhausting to track. I have gotten to the point where I feel gullible reading these books. The author says Poppy can do something and I say “okay, sure” without questioning it, because I’m so SATURATED with information.

Okay, on to the positives! THAT ENDING!!!! Holy wow. It was so suspenseful. For the first time in this entire series, I am HAPPY with how the book ended. I loved it. Talk about satisfying! I don’t feel annoyed, like I have with past books. Past books have ended on too much of a cliff hanger. I’m not a huge fan of cliff hangers. This one? Perfection!

I cannot wait for the next book! This series continues to be a favorite of mine. I love the relationship between Poppy and Casteel, and now with Kieran added into the mix, I’m even happier. The three of them are such a sweet team. *Swoon!!* 𝐌𝐘 𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐆: 𝟒.𝟓/𝟓⭐️
